Last Sunday’s highly anticipated AMA’s can honestly boast on amazing performances such as:  Hip Hip/Pop/R & B Group Dem FreshMen, Country Music  Group Sweet Tea, Jazz Saxophonist Tommy Friend, Spoken Word Veteran Glennwood Urbz, and Gospel Hip Hop Artist Rapture the Rapper, to name a few.  The heat was not only the temperature of the day, the level of performances on the stage, or the barometer of fashion seen on the red carpet; it was the degree of celebrities, high profile talent and national media in attendance.  Truly the “Glitz, Glamour, and Red Carpet” experience of a Hollywood award show descended upon Alabama.  AMA’s Creator Jermaine “Zeus” Garrett says, “Record Label Executives, Label Owners, Management Companies, A&R Representatives, Politicians, Socialites, Entrepreneurs and other High Profile people came to the AMA’s to either support and/or look for talent.  We were blessed to have Rafael Capone (Owner of internationally known Soul Asylum Studios Group), Blues great Ray Charles’ daughter Robyn Charles and more as Presenters.”  He continues, “Hats off to all the nominees submitted throughout the state of Alabama and congratulations to the winners.”  With 46 categories, I am sure you can see Alabama certainly has talent to be proud of.  Winners such as:  Country Group Bama Boys, Internationally known R&B/Soul/Blues Artist Sir Charles, Hip Hip/R&B Singer Lady Lace and more, were from all over the state of Alabama.  Zeus concludes, “We have a vast pool of talent in Alabama.  I have already been contacted by performers and entertainment executives for AMA 2017.”

The Alabama Music Awards

Alabama has always had a deep and rich musical heritage that has given the world impeccable vocalists, instrumentalists, and composers whom are influential in the music industry such as:  Blues legends Dinah Washington and W.C. Handy.  Country Music Pioneer Hank Williams Sr.  Legendary Motown artist The Temptation Members Eddie Kendricks and Melvin Franklin.  American Idol Winners Rueben Studdard, Taylor Hicks and Bo Bice, and father of “Rock and Roll” himself Sam Phillips.  This is why in 2012 Zeus (creator of the AMA’s) saw the need and founded the Alabama Music Awards Organization.  The sole purpose of this organization is to give recognition to Alabama’s vast array of upcoming entertainers, musicians, and journalists on a local, regional, and national level.  The AMA’s is the first of its kind to be hosted by the state of Alabama.  The AMA’s priority is to support and nourish those in the musical communities in the state of Alabama pursuing greatness. Music industry professionals and artist from Alabama (and surrounding areas) determine recipients of these awards.  “There is such a great history rooted in the state of Alabama, and we are elated to continue the integrity of this history by providing a positive platform that will enhance networking opportunities and assist new and emerging artists” says Zeus.  All proceeds from this event will assist communities with events that highlight or recognize local musicians throughout the year. Events of this magnitude will not only be educational, but it will give our youth the inspiration, encouragement, and resources needed to embark on their own musical journeys.
